Peer Networks
Meet and learn from other Albertans who share a commitment to climate action at the local level.
The Alberta Municipal Climate Leadership Council and the Alberta Climate Leaders Staff Peer Network advance climate leadership and collaboration at the local level.
These groups foster innovation and success by bringing together elected officials and staff from Alberta’s municipalities and Indigenous communities.
Members share knowledge, build relationships and develop new skills and capacities. They also gain access to evidence-based resources, capacity development opportunities, and a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
“Participating has been extremely beneficial. I not only learn from the facilitators and guest speakers, but I also listen to my colleagues from across Alberta who are undertaking important initiatives in their communities. They always ensure this is a safe and respectful space. For me, these meetings reinforce that our community is on the right path.”
Jean Barclay, Mayor of Innisfail

For Staff
The Alberta Climate Leaders Staff Peer Network enables staff to connect, learn, and collaborate effectively on climate action. It is open to staff from municipalities, Indigenous communities, and Indigenous government organizations.
Initially, the network will cover a wide range of climate action topics covering mitigation and adaptation. In alignment with the Alberta Climate Leaders portfolio, The Playbook guides the scope of network content, supported by peer examples and guest speakers.
A team from CEA and MCCAC serve as network facilitators, administering the Staff Peer Network. Network co-chairs provide strategic and delivery support to ensure that content best addresses participants’ needs.
Network sessions will include practical tools for applying climate action in Alberta, and build interpersonal skills to communicate and build relationships with residents and stakeholders in the context of local climate action.
Evolving Focus
As the needs of our members change, the network’s focus may evolve. This could lead to the creation of new, specialized networks or more action-oriented initiatives. Join us to collaborate and drive impactful climate action in your community.
Co-Chairs
The Network has up to five co-chairs, who voluntarily commit to the terms and responsibilities of this position. Co-chairs can be any eligible network member. Anyone interested in being a co-chair should reach out to the network facilitators.
